Ozark‘s new Ruth

Fans will know that Ruth has come a long way since the beginning when she was ‘just a Langmore’, part of a petty criminal family.

Thanks to big-time money launderers Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman) and Wendy Birde (Laura Linney), Ruth has gone from living purposeless life to murdering her very own uncles (for a good reason) and entrenching herself as valuable to some major drug cartels.

Impressive for a young woman who’s the size of a 12-year-old.

We see in season four that Ruth knows how to stand her ground, and play the game, better than ever… and she allows her anger toward the increasingly power-hungry and amoral Byrdes to reach its peak over the series. She knows what she’s doing and she wants to end the chaos around her.

In the season finale, Ruth has essentially had enough of everyone’s shit, and it culminates in an epic scene which social media has turned into a meme, recognising Ruth as the hero she’s become.

“If you want to stop me, you’re going to have to FUCKING KILLL MEEE!”, Ruth screams at Marty a minute from the end, in the most powerful scene of the series. It’s a reaction that Marty has had coming to him for quite some time, and it’s been applauded by viewers, and turned into memes about how to react on everything from when you’re not allowed to get another rescue dog and when your wife says no to a golf membership.
